Former military personnel and BJP leader Govinda Mandal was allegedly attacked in Ward No. 15 of Baruipur Municipality on Monday night. According to the complaint, two local youths, Subrata and Priyavrat, assaulted him with iron rods, leaving him seriously injured. Govinda was initially admitted to Baruipur Sub-District Hospital and later shifted to Chittaranjan Hospital for advanced treatment. Police confirmed receiving the complaint and stated that an investigation is underway.
The dispute between Govinda and the accused reportedly centers around a piece of land in the locality. Sources suggest that the issue had escalated over time, with legal proceedings already initiated by Govinda. Following the attack, BJP leaders have condemned the incident, alleging political motives behind the assault. However, Trinamool leaders denied the allegations, stating that the altercation stemmed from personal and family-related disagreements rather than politics.
This incident has raised concerns in the area, with locals calling for strict action. The police are examining all angles, including CCTV footage and witness statements, to determine the sequence of events. No arrests have been confirmed so far, and authorities have assured that legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
